6 Prop Firm Platforms Compared
I compared 6 prop firm platforms before buying: cost, ownership, features, and support. Here is what actually matters and which questions to ask before paying.
Nobody Gives You a Straight Answer
Every platform has a good landing page. Professional design, impressive feature lists, logos of payment providers. Then you click the pricing button and it says "Contact us for pricing."
That is the first red flag.
I spent three weeks actually evaluating six different prop firm platforms before making my decision. Demo calls, trial access, pricing negotiations. Here is what I actually found.

The Criteria I Used
Before I started, I wrote down exactly what I needed.
Source code ownership first. If the company closes tomorrow, does my firm keep running? Only if I have the code.
One time or monthly. I am building a business, not renting one forever.
Tech stack. Can any developer work on it or am I stuck with one vendor for every change?
Live demo before paying. Not a video. The actual platform.
MT5 pricing included or billed separately.
With those in hand, I evaluated everything I could find.
Type 1: Monthly SaaS Platforms
These are the most common. Professionally marketed, easy to find, quick sales process.
The pitch is that everything is managed for you. Servers, updates, support. Just pay monthly and focus on your business.
The reality is different.
Pricing starts around $500 per month for the basic tier. Anything with real features is $1,500 to $3,000 per month. Some charge extra per funded account or per active challenge.
No source code. Ever. That is non negotiable for them because the code is the product they are selling you access to, not ownership of.
After 12 months at $1,500 per month, you have spent $18,000. After 3 years, $54,000. And you own nothing. The day you stop paying, the firm goes dark.
Two of the six platforms I evaluated were this type. Both had polished demos. Both had sales teams that followed up three times after my trial. I said no to both.

Type 2: Build It Yourself
Some people go this route. Hire a development team, build the platform from scratch, own everything.
The quotes I received ranged from $80,000 to $150,000 for a functional first version. Timeline estimates were 12 to 18 months.
One developer gave me an honest breakdown. Trading terminal integration alone was 3 months of work. Payment gateway setup was another month. The challenge engine, payout system, and admin panel added another 6 months minimum.
And that is before you discover bugs in live trading, which always happens.
I have the budget for a platform. I do not have $120,000 and 18 months to spend before earning a single dollar.
Type 3: Offshore Clones
There is a category of platforms that show up when you search in certain forums. Usually priced around $500 to $1,500 as a one time payment. Screenshots look decent.
I tested two of these. One had a trading terminal that froze during my demo. The other had no working payout system when I pushed on it in the trial.
The support response time on one was 4 days for a basic setup question.
These exist but I would not build a business on them.
Type 4: One Time Purchase, Proper Platform
This is where LaunchPropFirm sits and it is what I ended up choosing.
One time payment. Full source code included. WordPress backend plus Next.js frontend which means any developer on the planet can work with it if I ever need custom changes.
The demo was live before I paid anything. I logged in as a trader, went through a full challenge flow, tested the trading terminal with real MT5 prices, made a payout request, and checked the admin panel. All of it worked.
After paying, the ongoing cost is hosting at around $15 per month and the MT5 price feed at $30 to $50 per month. Under $70 per month total.
The 3-year comparison with a mid tier SaaS platform: $54,000 versus under $6,000. The gap is $48,000.

The Five Questions to Ask Any Platform Before Buying
After going through this process I have five questions I recommend asking every vendor.
Do I get the full source code? If the answer is no or they hedge, walk away.
What happens to my firm if your company shuts down? A good platform survives independently. A SaaS platform disappears.
What is the tech stack? If they cannot answer clearly, you are buying a black box.
Can I see a live working demo with real accounts before paying? If they only show you screenshots, that tells you something.
What is my total cost in year 3? Force them to include everything. Hosting, licenses, support, updates.
What I Wish I Had Known Before Starting
The platform you choose is the foundation of your entire business. It determines your costs, your flexibility, and whether you actually own what you built.
Monthly SaaS feels safer because someone else manages it. But you are not building an asset. You are renting one indefinitely.
Three weeks of evaluation saved me from a decision that would have cost me tens of thousands of dollars over the next few years.

Operator Tip: Most operators who regret their platform choice say the same thing: they did not test it as a trader before buying. Always request demo access and complete a mock challenge before purchasing any platform. The admin experience matters too, but the trader experience is what your customers will judge.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the most important features to compare when buying a prop firm platform?
Automated breach detection, real-time MT5 market pricing, admin payout management, KYC document collection, and branded trader certificates. Platforms missing any of these create operational gaps you will fill manually, which does not scale.
How do I evaluate the quality of platform support before buying?
Ask specific pre-sale questions and measure the response time and quality. Email a technical question about the platform architecture. Submit a demo support request. Vendors who respond slowly or vaguely before a sale respond the same way after.
What questions should I ask any prop firm platform vendor?
Ask: Is the source code included? What are the ongoing costs beyond the license? How is MT5 market data sourced? What does the affiliate tracking system look like? How are payout disputes handled? What does the onboarding process cover?
Is there a difference between platforms for forex vs futures trading?
Yes. Forex-focused platforms integrate MT5 pricing and use percentage-based drawdown. Futures platforms require different market data sources and often use dollar-value drawdown. Confirm the platform supports your intended instruments before purchasing.
Can I switch platforms after launching if I am unsatisfied?
Yes, but switching is operationally disruptive. Trader data, challenge history, and active funded accounts must migrate. Platforms that provide source code or data export tools make switching easier. SaaS platforms with proprietary databases make it harder.
